Open Water 1 Scuba Qualification

Dive into an Open Water Scuba Course

Untouched Adventures Storms River has dive instructors qualifying scuba students in National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) and PADI certified scuba qualifications.

Please enquire for the dates of our next scuba course. PADI Open Water Course costs R3500 including all gear hire, theory, pool training and dives, with your own manual, log book and certification card upon completion.

There are 3 stages of an Open Water Scuba Course: Academics, Pool Training and Open Water Scuba Diving.

Academics/Theory before diving

Our Dive Instructor also through the academic theory with you personally, so you have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers to make you a better and more knowledgeable scuba diver. Included with your course fee is a scuba dive manual that you can study from and keep for future reference.

Pool Training and Scuba Skills Lessons

Pool training allows you to become comfortable with your gear in the safety and protection of confined water. Here you learn all the necessary skills to become a safe and competent Scuba Diver. After successfully completing your pool training, you are ready for the open water!

Open Water Scuba Dives

All open water scuba dives are conducted inside Tsitsikamma National Park marine protected area. Shore entries are from the small beach or harbour at Storms River Mouth and include various Tsitsikamma reefs. It is such a privilege to learn to dive in the MPA as you will encounter an abundance of soft corals and fish life on every dive, as well as learn the important skills of scuba diving in an ocean environment (opposed to a lake or dam). You must complete at least 4 Open Water Scuba Dives, including a Snorkel Dive and successfully pass your written examination to become internationally certified to dive to depths of 18m! If after your Open Water course you are still hungry for more – you can explore options for further qualifications, the road to Professional Scuba Diving, or even an apprenticeship gap year with us at Untouched Adventures.
