Apprenticeship Year

The Apprentice Year in Storms river, Tsitsikamma

Our apprenticeship students are a specifically chosen group of young motivated people whom join us for a year at Storms River. The year is a combination of work experience and training to receive qualifications in various tourism fields.

This is an exciting year of training, personal development, and exploration in the tourism industry that will set you up for life.

Qualifications included in the Apprenticeship Year

1. Scuba Diving

• Open Water 1
• Advanced Scuba Diver
• Rescue Diver
• Master Diver
• Dive Master (internationally qualified to lead commercial scuba dives)

2. Sea Kayaking

• Sea Kayak Guide qualification
• African Paddling Association Membership

3. First Aid Certification

• First Aid Level 1
• First Aid Level 2
• First Aid Level 3

Life experience gained during the Apprenticeship Year

Students normally end the year with 150-200 dives logged and 400-500 logged ocean and river kayaking hours. The skill, confidence and competence of Apprentice Students after a year at Untouched Adventures will set them up for success in the tourism industry locally and internationally.

Roles of Apprenticeship Students

Some of the roles students will receive during the year are taking customers out on kayak, scuba and snorkel trips, booking customers on activities, learning how to fill dive cylinders and working with school groups with various adventure activities. Students will be expected to work 45hrs a week and will receive 15 days holiday leave during the year.

Accommodation is provided inside Garden Route National park walking distance to shops, restaurant, beach etc.

Cost & Inclusions for the Apprenticeship Year

Cost for the apprenticeship year is R19000 and it includes all qualifications, accommodation, UA clothing, adventure gear rental and activities. The experience gained and the work values achieved are priceless.

Food is not included and students are expected to provide and cook their own food.
